MAMIS

Mamis

Being gay in Cuba has never being easy. Despite things changed considerably in the last 10 years, homosexuality remains to be a taboo. For women it’s even more difficult, they have to face the double standard of being women and gay in a society with a high level of machismo. Even more complicated is being a lesbian mother. They don’t have access to adoption or IV, but in Cuba there is always a way.

MAMIS is the story of four women who are tired of being treated as second-class citizens. It is a story about two generations of Cuban mothers who have decided to live their lives how they want to, despite the prejudices of the society. It is about personal rebellion, but also of resignation.
