Our main purpose is to raise the profile of Ibero-American cinema in Scotland and UK. By collaborating with key venues and institutions, we connect emerging filmmakers from Spain, Portugal and Latin America with British organisations and audiences.
CinemaAttic is working towards becoming a keystone company in the distribution of Hispanic and Lusophone cinema in Scotland and UK and a platform for entertainment, learning, cultural diffusion, networking and industry development through arts and cinema. Furthermore, we offer audiovisual artists based in UK the possibility to embrace projects outside their main area of influence.
An established cultural platform
CinemaAttic was established in 2008 as an arts and culture blog to provide a platform for thoughts and ideas about independent cinema. The name derives from its first venue, a secret loft located in the heart of Edinburgh that was converted into a cinema to host underground cultural events.
During the first months of 2009, CinemaAttic’s began to evolve through a partnership with the Edinburgh Filmhouse. With the support of the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh and the Spanish Ministry of Culture, they organised an eight-film season on Javier Bardem & Penélope Cruz. The CinemaAttic team worked towards enriching the programme through the inclusion of a conference, photo exhibition, event at the National Galleries of Scotland and more than one hundred acclaimed Spanish short films being screened in five different venues across Edinburgh.
Since 2009, CinemaAttic has produced and organised six different film and arts festivals across Scotland, collaborating with key venues and institutions to engage the public and raise the profile of Spanish film in Scotland.
