Our Mission

CinemaAttic is a Scotland-based community cinema organisation that enables people to experience, discuss and shape independent cinema from Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Catalonia. We exist because audiences rarely see these films in mainstream cinemas, and because people from migrant, multilingual and racially minoritised communities are too often excluded from decisions about what culture is presented in their own city.

We create welcoming, affordable and accessible film events in cinemas, libraries, schools and community venues. Our work combines screenings with discussion, food, music, learning and opportunities for audiences to meet one another. We particularly seek to remove barriers for people on low incomes, people who are new to arts spaces, people who face language or representation barriers, and d/Deaf and disabled audiences.

Our purpose is not simply to show films. It is to make film culture more representative, social and community-owned, so that people can see their histories and languages on screen and have a genuine voice in what is programmed.


Company Overview


Due to CinemaAttic’s expansion beyond Edinburgh and the Central Belt throughout the past decade, we have been reevaluating the objectives and aspirations of this collaborative organisation as we adapt to our growing fan base. We want our events to be accessible and welcoming to everyone and hope to make a difference in the wider community.
