A generation that has changed Catalan contemporary cinema. A group of female filmmakers leading a new wave in Catalan cinema. Yes, they are mostly women but most importantly they are simply outstanding directors bringing new perspectives to Catalan and more broadly Spanish film scene – all awarded in the world’s most prestigious festivals. They were one of the reasons why we started the Catalan Film Festival five years go. An excuse to amplify the voices of these directors, many of them have visited Scotland already like Celia Rico, Belén Funes, Laura Ferrés, Irene Moray or Ivet Castelo and we remain hopeful that the rest of them will soon too (Pilar Palomero, Clara Roquet, Roser Aguilar, Elena Martin, Neus Ballus, Meritxell Colell, Mar Coll, Diana Toucedo, Nely Reguera, Elena Trapé or Carla Simón among others). This list is long and much is written about this group of Catalan female directors, for us this is only a bold attempt to recover some of our favorite films part of that generation – available worldwide for over two weeks.
