MUJERES • Women in Film

WATCH IT HERE

Once again we put together a programme of nine radical, colourful, daring, beautiful films made by Spanish & Latin American women. On top of CinemaAttic’s all-year-round commitment to highlighting the most exciting female filmmakers in the sector, we dedicate a special month to celebrate our favorite films made by women in the last year, so here it is! MUJERES is back!

When: Friday 12 March, starting at 19:30 until Friday 19 March 23:55.
Where: Online, in your living room (as long as it’s in the UK!)
How: The online hub to watch the films is #IndyOnDemand. Tickets Available here

We gather in this selection some of the world’s most exciting new directors. Filmmakers with a distinctive vision like Agustina San Martín, Pilar Monsell, Helena de Llanos, Kathy Esquinazi, or Milena Castro. Women shaking up the film scene in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, or Spain.

Here you’ll find films questioning the way the female body has been traditionally portrayed in painting, photography, fashion, and film across decades. Powerful documentaries on collective struggle and women leading a revolution. Interesting dilemmas of women reclaiming, re-imagining, and redefining the concept of home, the private and the public space.

This selection of films focuses on the plurality and variety of female perspectives, psychology, and different manifestations of the female gaze. Every year we try to find new films to widen this idea with radical, unconventional storytelling; bringing together new ways of seeing, radical propositions, and groundbreaking perspectives that subvert the established conventions of filmmaking. We like to reach far and wide, so you will have the chance to enjoy a selection of very different works. These range from innovative works of fiction to mockumentary, new approaches to mystical, fantasy, or experimental cinema, and a particularly strong presence of non-fiction films, that blur the boundaries of documentary and fiction.

Films awarded in the world’s most prestigious festivals. Cannes winners and shorts nominated to the upcoming Goya’s Awards. Films selected at AFI Fest, Viennashorts, Mar de Plata, Chicago Film Festival, San Sebastian, Doclisboa, Visions du Reel or the New York Film Festival.
