We are pleased to bring a full retrospective on Teddy Williams’ work in February 2025.
Eduardo “Teddy” Williams started his film studies at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires before advancing to Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains in France. Initially, his short films were rooted in his homeland of Argentina; however, his more recent projects, filmed in diverse locations worldwide, have increasingly incorporated themes of travel, uncertainty, and the spontaneous relationships that arise in unfamiliar settings as integral elements of his filmmaking approach.
In 2023, he presented THE HUMAN SURGE 3 at the Locarno Film Festival.
His works challenge viewers to see the world through a different lens, encouraging contemplation and emotional engagement. By focusing on often overlooked subjects and employing innovative techniques, Williams has carved out a unique space in contemporary cinema.

THE HUMAN SURGE 3
The Human Surge 3 has been categorised as impossible to categorise or barely worthy of being called a film. We believe it pushes the boundaries on known genres and how human essence can be portrayed. This is a rare visual object using an unhuman gaze to capture everything there is to see about us. We love the sense of liberation and the endless potential the realm of life created by Teddy Williams offers.
The film weaves a tapestry of interconnected stories spanning continents. The plot follows a diverse cast of characters as they navigate a world on the brink of technological singularity. From a young hacker in Tokyo to a climate refugee in Miami, the film’s narrative threads converge in unexpected and profound ways, challenging our perceptions of time, space, and human connection.
Terry Williams’ characters are not mere plot devices but fully realized individuals that reflect the complexities of the human experience. The protagonist, Aiko, a Japanese AI researcher, embodies the struggle between technological progress and ethical responsibility. Her journey intertwines with that of Carlos, a Cuban data analyst, whose story highlights the global disparities in access to technology.
The impact of The Human Surge 3 keeps growing exponentially. It is more than just a film; it’s a mirror reflecting our hopes, fears, and potential as a global society. It challenges us to think deeply about our relationship with technology and each other. As the credits roll, we’re left with a profound sense of our interconnectedness and the power of human resilience in the face of change.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Teddy Williams.
