SOUNDS OF RESILIENCE
Documentary // Bosnia and Herzegovina
Director // Xuban Intxausti
60 minutes

The documentary starring Mursego and cellist Vedran Smailovic was recorded in Bosnia and Herzegovina and deals with the value of music to build resilience.

The Basque artist Maite Arroitajauregi “Mursego” travels to Sarajevo and Gorazde to create a musical piece that evokes the Adagio of Albinoni that Vedran Smailovic (“the Sarajevo cellist”) performed between sniper shots to pay tribute to 22 civilians killed in May 1992 while queuing to buy bread.

Mursego discovers the consequences of the war and the current situation in Bosnia Herzegovina at the hands of its inhabitants. The testimonies of women fighters, intellectuals, ex-combatants, students and artists inspire sounds for their final concert in Sarajevo.

This is a documentary about the ability to overcome trauma and about the power of music.
