SCAT | Film Masterclass | Belén Funes

EDINBURGH COLLEGE OF ART (Hunter Lecture Theatre)

FRIDAY 16th NOV 2018 2PM

Belen Funes is probably one of the most interesting emerging directors in Spain, not just that we love her film discourse and vision, Variety named her one of the rising stars in Spain’s film scene and we are proud to have her in Scotland days before she finished the shooting of her first feature, produced by Isabel Coixet’s Miss Wasabi Films.

Belén Funes was born in Barcelona in 1984. Studied film directing at ESCAC (Spain) and screenwriting at EICTV (Cuba – San Antonio de los Baños Film School). She has been working as script supervisor and assistant director  taking part in projects by Isaki Lacuesta, Mar Coll and Isabel Coixet among others.

“Sara’s runaway” was her first short screened at international festivals like Zagreb Film Festival, Cinemed and won best short and best director at Málaga Film Festival. “The Hopeless” is her second short, premiered at Valladolid-Seminci Film Festival and nominated for the Catalan Academy Awards.

In 2016 Variety shortlisted Belén as one of the ten Spanish talents to track. She participated in the talent lab at the Toronto International Film Festival while working on the pre-production of her first feature film.
