Two of the most prominent animators in Spain visit Scotland for a special workshop + programme of films specially commissioned for our retrospective Basque Spring.

Begoña Vicario and Izibene Oñederra select a programme of animated short-films that have influenced their artistic work. They are all wide collaborative projects between different teams/studios using a wide range of techniques.

Begoña VICARIO (1962, Venezuela) has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in Audiovisual specialty and studied animation at the PIOT Studio in Moscow. Since 1988 she has taught animation at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of the Basque Country. She received the Goya Award for Best Animated Short Film for Ask for Me.

Azkoitia, 1979. Izibene Oñederra has a degree in Fine Arts from Bilbao University. She has made and produced a number of her own hand-drawn animation films and has also collaborated in other people’s animation projects, such as, for example, Isabel Herguera’s film Amar. Her films have been in top festivals like Annecy, Zagreb’a Animafest, Animac or San Sebastian Film Festival and her work is been part of retrospectives in leading arts centres such as MoMA or CCCB

This event is part of Basque Spring, a film season organised by Cinemaattic that will bring to the UK classic and contemporary films from Basque Country from April 25th to May 23rd, and includes special screenings, talks and gastronomic events. The retrospective is supported by Etxepare Basque Institute and is part of the #ScotlandGoesBasque programme.
