As part of our retrospective into Colombian Contemporary Animation, we bring some of the greatest modern animated gems made by Colombian directors.

A celebration of all Colombian things! We celebrate Colombia new wave of Animation in the best possible way:
– Colombian Street Food in the Menu! ???
 
– Carlos Santa, One of the greatest pioneers in Latin American Animation will be present all the way from Colombia!
 
– A collection of the best Animated films made in Colombia in recent years
 
This is the opening Night of our Retrospective “Carlos Santa & Colombian Contemporary Animation” and is split in two parts:
 
1. At 6pm, Exhibition Opening at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA)
 
2. At 7.30pm, Colombia Short Film Night at Lauriston Hall (5-minute walk from ECA)

ECA Animation department hosts the exhibition “Carlos Santa | Animation Pioneer ” which features original illustrations, storyboards and other artworks by one of the greatest artists in Colombia,.The exhibition also features some of the handmade steel and wood artefacts that the Bogota-born pioneer used to make his original animations. A unique chance to understand Carlos Santa ‘s approach to Time on Animation.
 
After the opening we will walk together to Lauriston Hall (5 minute walk)

Why so many great Animation Directors are coming from Colombia these days? What makes it so different to other Animation schools in the world? The Best of Modern Animation made in Colombia together for one night!
 
We take Carlos Santa’s role as father of avant-garde and artistic animation in Colombia to show different techniques and narratives that make of Colombia a leading country in animated films today. This programme of films investigate the influence of the Bogota-born animator in contemporary Colombian animation. The retrospective also includes works by Ana Caro, Carlos Gomez Salamanca, Laura Castillo, Simon Acosta, María Cristina Pérez / Mauricio Cuervo.
 
Considered the father of artistic animation in Colombia, Carlos Santa has been a reference for a whole generation of artists not just in Colombia but the whole of Latin America. Carlos Santa will join us in person to discuss what is happening in Colombia that makes it such an attractive hub both for commercial and independent animation.

This event will be our first time so make sure you don’t end up in Summerhall or Old St Pauls’s… we’re moving to Lauriston Hall. Even closer to city centre and arts school, two minute walking from Grassmarket and Tolcross.
