Cinemaattic strikes again with a programme in social and political issues. Six shorts with a high presence of Documentary film and political concerns. Touching mental health, LGBT, migration, environmental issues, colonialism and revolution. Cinemaattic’s more concerned programme. Documentary plays a crucial role to frame political stories but we will also demonstrate that fiction and even comedy can also showcase social issues. Come on in, our April service is ready, here some superb films seeking to start a fire.

Migration round. Spain, a country of emigrants, received thousands of them earlier in the century. The crisis changed the trend and now many have been accompanied by many Spaniards who follow the same path. Ulises is not here anymore by Juan Carlos García-Sampedro.

BlaBlaBla. Sharing car is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get. Nominated to Goyas 2017 with just a three minute short film, yes folks Alexis Morante is back @cinemaattic with this short yet intense tale on Disabilities, discrimination and inclusiveness.
Following with more Shorts nominated to GOYAS 2017. Nominated to Best Documentary shortfilm is ESPERANZA. Based on one of the journeys of the “Esperanza” vessel to the Arctic, this short documentary tells the story of life on board of Greenpeace’s ship. Through conversations with the crew, Alvaro Longoria, Carlos Bardem and Alberto Ammann will discover their motivations for risking their lives to defend the planet, so far away from home.

Tapping into LGBT issues Up on the Rooftop was nominated to Gaudi Awards and is one of our favourite shortfilms of the year. How brightly is homosexuality in teenagehood framed by director Damia Serra. A bunch of teens and all pretending to be the toughest. It’s summer time. Adrián and his friends climb every afternoon at a roof to spy a girl who sunbathes naked. But this afternoon won’t be like the others: today they’ll realize that one of them is more interested in a guy showering in a close building.

We go global. Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, has been gripped by unrest in recent times. Nation on Fire is a unique portrait of a nation in suspense, a nation in fear, a nation in waiting. A rare and exclusive snapshot of the days after the riots but before the storm in Ukraine.

Selected at Zinemaldia – San Sebastian Film Festival last year we couldn’t wait to have Paul in Edinburgh. PAUL is a documentary film about a 13 year old boy from the Dunoon township in Cape Town, South Africa, named Paul. Paul has a dream, a dream he thinks about all day; he wants to be surfer. But boys from Dunoon township don’t surf. There is no transportation to the beach and there is no money for equipment. Fortunately, there is a non-profit organization that picks up Paul to go surfing at the white beaches of Blouberg. Surf legend and sports icon Robby Naish is the voice over of the documentary. Naish, a strong believer in the power and importance of sport for the development of children and their communities, was immediately touched by this story.
