Catalan Shorts 2020 Selection I
Online: 19 Nov – 6 Dec (Globally) Get your tickets here
Short Film continues to be at the heart of the festival. Once again we bring together our favorite Catalan Shorts of the year. It’s the house specialty, so make sure you don’t miss our 2020 Official Selection Programmes I and II and our Shorts Retrospectives.
In this programme you will find big auteurs like Summer 1993 director Carla Simón returning to short film to impress us even more her Berlinale-winning directorial debut did. Radical and surrealistic perspectives on the almost-certainly-guaranteed apocalypse coming soon and how humanity are contributing to it, as well as the last short film masterpiece by Anna Solannas and Marc Riba – our favourite puppet animation stop motion duo in the world. Candela and Pol.len are two sides of the same coin, in one we see a young woman returning to her neighborhood to find out that the community has given space to airbnbs and tourism, in the other we see an old woman getting increasingly isolated and forgotten in the suburbs of the same city. Two different women are also connected by the flames of two fires in Ara Crema and Els Que Callen, both originated from a very personal trauma.
This is a ridiculously strong programme of short films.
