Every country has its typical North vs South tensions, but in the case of Spain these were aggravated by a massive exodus of Andalusian workers (labelled “Charnegos”) to Barcelona and to the Catalan coastal towns during the 60s – as the country was preparing to become a tourist attraction for the enjoyment of Spaniards, Brits and Europeans alike.
