Basque Spring Short Film Show

Spain as a unified whole, or as rather diverse amalgam of cultures and ways of being? A unique cinema or a multilayered one?

How much Spanish cinema do you think you can talk about? How much can you manage to grab in your nearby cinemas?

Every spring, Euskadi leader distribution platform KIMUAK (which means SPROUTS in Basque) selects the best from Basque short film scene to create an annual DVD with the the most talented, original and qualified proposals produced within Basque Country. With the support of the Basque Government’s Department of Culture and the Basque Film Archive, the selection criteria bespeaks of an industry that looks after its cinema what is ultimately reflected on the screen.

We are talking about Borja Cobeaga, Isabel Herguera, Asier Altuna, Telmo Esnal o Gregorio Muro -more than 80 awards between them all including GOYA and Academy Awards.

Thanks to our collaboration in recent years with both KIMUAK and Basque Filmoteque, we have gathered the new buds that have germinated in 2011 and 2012 as to take them to Scotland. A unique overwiew of what is happening in one of the most prolific and well-cared cinema in Spain these days.

All the films will be screened with English subtitles. The only opportunity to approach peripheral quality cinema outside the generic channels of cinema industry.

And yes: peripheral can be superlative. Come and see.
