BASQUE PINTXOS & FILMS CRAWL

In collaboration with Scotland’s leading Spanish cinema mavericks CinemaAttic, LeithLate presents a short-film crawl of Leith Walk pubs complete with Basque traditional food this April.

The participating bars will each be screening a short-film programme from the Basque Country’s leading short-film distributor Kimuak accompanied by pintxos. Pintxos are a Spanish tapas particular to the Basque Country known by their distinctive ‘spearing’ by a cocktail stick – a common means of socialising and a cornerstone of Basque culture. Traditional pintxos will be available at the following bars between 3-6pm on Sunday 28th April; Victoria, Leith Depot and Brig Below. Entrance to bars, food and films are all free.

The free film/food crawl culminates at Henderson Halls on Henderson Street for an afterparty where attendees can enjoy the great Basque cult classic feature film El Dia de la Bestia (The Day of the Beast) from 1995 by Alex de la Iglesia. The event closes with a dj set from Pako Vega AKA Sounds Of Ogigia. Afterparty tickets available at £6 each from Citizen Ticket.

This event is part of Cinemaattic’s Basque Spring, a film retrospective that will bring classic and contemporary films from the Basque Country to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The programme of films examines themes such as ‘Understanding the Basque Conflict’ and ‘Rethinking Land and Tradition’, and is part of the wider initiative #ScotlandGoesBasque bringing leading Basque artists to Scottish festivals throughout 2019.
