COMMUNITY BUILDING

We believe in having a organisation as diverse as the audience we aim to have. For that purpose we have started a process of organising screenings and workshops in periphery areas of the cities where we operate and hope to attract a wider and more diverse team for cinemaattic.

WORKSHOPS

Our first free workshop was a partnership with Screen Education Edinburgh and brought filmmaker, Meritxell Colell, to Scotland to present a special educational programme of Cinema en Curs. After the success of this workshop, and the Hillpark Secondary School screenings, we decided to provide a recurring programme of free workshops in local communities.

In Glasgow, due to the engagement of the pupils with the film programme, the teachers and CinemaAttic have started a new collaboration to continue to engage pupils with great independent cinema and creative skills development. From June 13th – 22nd, we are bringing animation artist Mario Torrecillas to Hillpark to host a ten day animation workshop. He will teach animation skills to the students and help them create their own animated film. We cannot wait to see what the students create and will be hosting a screening of their final creation! We hope to continue to bring great workshops to Hillpark to encourage the pupils to discover and nurture their creative talents.

In Edinburgh, as part of our collaboration with Craigmillar Library, we are bringing free creative workshops to the library for the local community. Our first two workshops with the library will focus on animation and begin on June 11th. We are honoured to have Lydia Beilby and Elena Duque host these workshops and pass on their wealth of knowledge to attendees. Lydia will teach the ropes of animation on 16mm film and show attendees how to draw, paint, etch and collage directly onto celluloid in order to create a mesmerising moving image piece. Elena will host a three day workshop teaching old and new animation techniques to help attendees unleash their imagination and create an animated short film. These workshops are sure to be an engaging and informative experience and we look forward to planning future workshops with the Craigmillar team and community!

SCREENINGS

Always in the spirit of cinemaAttic, our pop up screenings have taken us all along and across the central belt of Scotland and beyond. We beleieve this is the best way to offer our screenings and the CinemaAttic experience to a wider, more divers, audience. We are set as a regular fixture in Craigmillar Library the last Wednesday of every month. Check everything about our Craigmillar Film Club.

We organise regular outings with school children to stablished cinemas to show films that reafirm their self-believe. Contact engagement@cinemaattic.com to discuss an event with your group.
